In an emailed statement Monday, Const. Nick Gluckstein said the Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) located plane debris in the area of Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park, which is about a 45-minute drive north of the Kawartha Lakes municipality.

Police could not confirm whether the debris came from the single-seat aircraft belonging to the missing 73-year-old pilot, identified by police as David.

Police said in a post on X Saturday that David left the Oshawa Airport in the plane at 8:30 a.m. Friday and was expected to return at 9:30 a.m.

According to Ontario Provincial Police, the plane is a small blue homemade aircraft with “FOFZ” written on its tail.

David is described by police as an experienced pilot who is five feet seven inches tall with a slim build. He has black grey hair and a moustache.

Police said he usually flies in the area south of Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog. The last known location of the aircraft is believed to be around Balsam Lake.

Trenton JRCC and Kawartha Lakes OPP will be assisting in the search of the area where debris was found, Gluckstein said.
