The subject of an emergency alert issued by RCMP over a dangerous man with a firearm in Bedford, N.S., is believed to have been involved in a shooting in Annapolis Royal, N.S., earlier Saturday, say Halifax Regional Police.

Police are asking residents to stay indoors and lock their doors while the search is underway.

On Saturday afternoon, RCMP said by email that the emergency alert now covers all of the Halifax Regional Municipality, not just Bedford. The email did not include further details.

In a statement issued before the RCMP update, Halifax police said the 31-year-old suspect is a white man, six feet three inches with brown hair and brown facial hair.

Halifax police said the man’s vehicle was located in the parking lot behind Sunnyside Mall and he’s believed to be in the wooded area behind the mall.

Anybody who spots the man should call 911, said police.

Customers and staff are locked inside The Chickenburger restaurant on the Bedford Highway, next to Sunnyside Mall, as the search continues.

“There’s all kinds of police presence, RCMP and Halifax Regional [Police], and there’s the police helicopter going over and over,” an employee named Loretta told CBC News.
