Two candidates graduate from the program, and another is set to join. That’s the latest news from Tapestry Opera’s Women in Musical Leadership (WML) program in a nutshell.
Conductors Maria Fuller and Naomi Woo graduate, while conductor Eve Legault joins the three-year WML program designed to provide mentorship, practical opportunities and knowledge to emerging women leaders in the classical music world.
Eve Legault will join conductor Monica Chen, who will continue in the third-year cohort, along with continuing Associate Conductor Léa Moisan-Perrier. Two new Associate Conductors join the program for 2025/26, Serena Reuten and Véronique Lussier.
Maria Fuller and Naomi Woo were part of the second cohort of WML conductors.
Maria Fuller relocated to Europe during the last season, where she is now guest Resident Conductor at the Teatr Wielki w Łodzi in Poland. There, she’s led ballet, opera, and orchestral performances, assistant conducted Der fliegende Holländer, Romeo and Juliet, Turandot, and coached Hansel und Gretel and L’elisir d’amore. Maria was recently selected from a field of 160 applicants to step into the Assistant Conductor position with the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège in Belgium, a position that begins with the 25/26 season.
Naomi Woo is finishing her tenure as Music Director of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada with a tour that began in Toronto and ends on the West Coast. She is currently Artistic Partner with the Orchestre Métropolitain, and Assistant Conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Over the 2024/25 season, Naomi has been a guest conductor at orchestras in North America and Europe, including the Philharmonia Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Luxembourg Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre Métropolitain, Edmonton Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, Royal Conservatory Orchestra, Toronto Symphony, and Calgary Philharmonic.
Conductor Eve Legault is a native of Gatineau, Quebec where, this last season, she became the first woman to conduct the Orchestre symphonique de Gatineau. She holds a DMA from the Manhattan School of Music in New York, where she was received the Helen Cohn Award. Eve recently served as Guest Conductor with the Ottawa Chamber Orchestra. She is also the Principal Conductor of the Pembroke Symphony Orchestra in Ontario.
German-Canadian conductor Serena Reuten is currently serving as the Assistant Conductor of the Omaha Symphony. She earned degrees in flute performance at the Universities of Ottawa and Montreal, and currently holds the Evan Whallon Fellowship at the Eastman School of Music, where she is pursuing a Masters in Orchestral Conducting, and serves as assistant of the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra.
Véronique Lussier is from the Montréal region. In 2025, she conducted the Orchestre Classique de Montréal, the Orchestre Philharmonique du Maroc, and in partnership with Tapestry Opera Women in Musical Leadership, serves as assistant conductor for the National Youth Orchestra of Canada’s 65th anniversary tour this summer season.
We’ll be looking forward to seeing and experiencing the work of these talented professionals in the program and beyond.
