Our man in NYC, Steve Rodriguez, has been diligently working with the city of New York on the remaining two opening stages of the legendary Brooklyn Banks, which have been shut down for years (the small banks since 2010!). In a session that we could barely believe our eyes we were seeing, this past weekend, Steve brought Tony Hawk and The Skatepark Project’s Alec Beck to the Big Banks for their first shred. Not only that, this was our first time seeing the rebuilt Big Banks signaling that the grand reopening may not be far off!
“Luckiest skateboarder in the world today. Skated with @tonyhawk at the #brooklynbanks this morning. I was always the guy who you saw your first time at the Banks and the fact it was Tony and @alec_beck ‘s first time made me smile. Took so many people to make this happen but it never would have happened without Tony and the crew at @theskateparkproject As always special shout out to @hi_rok_o @shikirodriguez_ Rosa Chang and my team at our non profit @gothamparknyc • @justin_villano_and the team at @vansskate • Meera Joshi, Former Deputy Mayor • @yating28, Chief public realm officer • James Archer, Senior Advisor – Parks and Transportation • Ydanis Rodriguez, NYC DOT Commissioner. THANK YOU! Can’t wait until the Big Banks is completely done and open! Should be soon!!!”
