Saskatoon police assigned a five-person surveillance team to keep tabs on Kyle Ronald Hameluck from the minute he walked out of jail.
The 37-year-old was serving time for 25 charges of voyeurism after secretly filming and taking photos of women through their windows at night, recording them in various stages of undress.
Once he was let out of custody, Hameluck was on probation conditions — including that he couldn’t possess or use any cellphone or device that can take photos or record videos.
He is charged with breaching that condition, but pleaded not guilty; his trial began Thursday in Saskatoon provincial court.
The first witness who testified was Const. Adam Blades, one of the members of the surveillance team who followed Hameluck around the city after his release on Valentine’s Day, a Saturday.
Around 6:30 p.m. CST, Blades watched as Hameluck talked to a clerk at the Mobile Q store in the Midtown Mall in downtown Saskatoon.
“It looked like he was purchasing a cellphone,” Blades testified. “I could see him handing cash to the clerk.”
Blades let the rest of the team know what he saw, and the sergeant in charge of the team said Hameluck was arrestable.
Officers located Hameluck a short while later up in the food court on the second floor, followed him down the escalator and arrested him. A new Samsung Galaxy A16 phone, which has cameras on its front and back, was in his pocket, along with the receipt from the store.
His arrest was captured on the body-worn cameras of two uniformed officers who helped take Hameluck into custody. The videos were played in court during Blades’s testimony.
Right away, Hameluck let the officers know he had razor blades in his pocket, saying he was going to use them to wreck the cameras on the phone.
“I was supposed to destroy it. I have my razor to destroy it,” Hameluck said.
“I have to destroy it somehow, right?”
Officers pulled razor blades from one of his pockets.
Hameluck has been in custody since his arrest for the alleged breach in February.
His trial in front of Judge Darren Howarth was scheduled to take one day, but even if the evidence wraps up on Thursday, the judge may reserve his decision.
A few days before Hameluck’s release on Feb. 14, police issued a public alert with his name and photo “in an abundance of caution and concern” about his potential to reoffend.
His most recent convictions were for 25 charges of voyeurism stemming from incidents in late 2024 and early 2025.
Before that, in 2020, he pleaded guilty to 38 counts of voyeurism involving 25 women. Those offences were committed while he was on probation for voyeurism and indecent assault convictions from 2017.
