Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand says one of the 30 Canadian citizens and permanent residents missing after catastrophic flooding in Nepal’s border region with China has been found safe.
She says the individual was unreachable due to communication outages and was able to establish contact Tuesday.
The flash flooding struck one week ago after a glacier collapsed in the Himalayan border region between Nepal and China.

More than 1,100 people were killed and more than 3,900 are missing.
Nepal’s Foreign Ministry says about 590 foreign nationals from 39 countries remain unaccounted for.
Anand says Canada will be sending more than 18,000 emergency items from Canadian Red Cross stockpiles to the area in addition to the $5 million Ottawa has already pledged in humanitarian aid.
