Police in Dawson Creek, B.C., are seeking information about a scooter-riding bank robber, or robbers, who made off with undisclosed amounts of cash in back-to-back stickups.

Police say in the first case, a Royal Bank branch in the northeast B.C. city was robbed when a suspect entered the building wearing a full-face motorcycle helmet with a ski mask and sunglasses on underneath.

“The suspect allegedly brandished a weapon and demanded cash,” RCMP said in a news release. “They ultimately fled the area on a scooter…. Despite extensive patrols, police could not immediately locate the suspect.”

That was on June 19 at 10324 10th St. Four days later, on June 23, a second bank robbery was reported just a 170 metres away, at a Scotiabank branch at 10204 10th St.

More stories from Northern B.C.

Once again, a suspect — this time wearing a face mask and sunglasses to conceal their face — allegedly brandished a weapon and fled on a scooter with an undisclosed amount of cash, evading police.

The robberies took place just after 5:30 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. PT, respectively, and occurred in the city’s downtown, near the popular Mile “0” marker used to indicate the beginning of the Alaska Highway route north to the Yukon.

Despite the similarities between the cases, Staff Sgt. Kris Clark of the B.C. RCMP said in his release that work is still being done to determine if the two cases are connected.

Police have not clarified whether the scooter was an e-scooter, a kick scooter or some other model.
