It seems like Ali Boulala has already lived a million lives. Many of us got our intro to Ali in Flip’s iconic video, Sorry. It’s a part that will go down in skateboarding history, in my opinion. He was a maniac, on and off the board, but his talent was undeniable. But his personality? Out of this world.
Living Proof Radio recently caught up with Ali to give us all a little peak behind the curtains of this former pro skater and see what life has been looking like in 2025.
Say what you want, but the dude helped shape an era of skateboarding that many of us will always remember (for better or worse), and he’s certainly been through the wringer.
From the early days of his blossoming career, skating with the Flip squad and that OG Huntington Beach crew, to the Piss Drunx days, his tragic 2007 accident and everything that unraveled after the fact, his recovery story is super inspiring.

Ali has been sober since 2013 and currently lives in Sweden, “finding new purpose in life and moving forward with a renewed spirit, he has channeled his creative energy into music,” Living Proof mentions.
Hearing him reflect on his days of drinking as a teen and simply growing up the way he did is pretty interesting, and really puts the whole thing into perspective for me. I grew up watching these dudes drinking, smoking, partying—whatever—and plenty of us are guilty of trying to emulate it all. But we all grow up eventually, and I love hearing these success stories (despite what it often takes to get there).

I’ll always be a fan of Ali’s skating and his video parts will always be some of the most memorable, as far as I’m concerned.
Through all the ups and downs, I’m stoked to hear he’s doing better and trying to find that simple peace we all search for. Keep it up, Ali. And if you haven’t seen his Epicly Later’d, do yourself a favor and watch it below.
