Let’s be real—at this point in his career, Tony Hawk could just kick back, relax, and simply live his “best life.” But that’s just not how he’s wired, and honestly, I still think that’s exactly what he’s currently doing anyways (minus the kicking back part, ha).

Our beloved Birdman is decades deep into his skateboarding career as I type these silly little words, and he’s somehow still out there learning new tricks. Yep. Not just skating. Learning new tricks. “New one… for me, at least. Fakie shuv to switch 5-0? I’m sure there is a more complicated street-ish name for it,” The Birdman wrote on Instagram. “This was much harder—and more dangerous—than I anticipated. It’s no secret that deep down, skateboarding is all about progression. I mean, trying and conquering new tricks is one of the best feelings in the world! Whether you’re just learning how to ollie or figuring out some obscure NBD, that hunger to progress never really dies.

But to see someone like Tony Hawk—who has literally changed skateboarding in so many ways—still out there chasing that feeling? Yeah, consider me inspired. Does he just sit around and think, “I wonder if this is possible?” Or, “This would be sick…”

I’d say the answer is a simple yes.

There’s a reason there’s only one Tony Hawk. And there will only ever be one Tony Hawk. The dude is a lifer, and moments like this just cement what we already know: he ain’t done yet! In fact, he might never be.
