Sections of Cape Breton Highlands National Park are closed after a visitor was bitten by a coyote on Thursday at MacIntosh Brook.
A notice from Parks Canada said MacIntosh Brook, Lone Shieling, and roadside parking locations in the surrounding area are temporarily closed as a precaution.
Parks Canada staff are monitoring the affected area, the notice said.
There is currently no information on the condition of the person bitten in the encounter. CBC News has contacted Parks Canada for further details.
Park officials urge visitors not to approach or feed wildlife and to give animals plenty of space.
According to the notice, visitors encountering a coyote should try to appear large, make noise and slowly back away.
Feeding, enticing or disturbing wildlife in a national historic site is illegal and subject to a fine of up to $25,000.
Earlier in September, an update from the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, which is administered by Parks Canada, noted that a human-coyote incident occurred on the Old Town Trail along Highway 22.
