Police are asking for the public’s assistance in finding Nathanael Selambi. They say a command post is set up and officers are searching the area.

Nathanael Selambi was last seen on the beach by the floating inflatable playground around 3 p.m. ET, police said in a Thursday news release.

Hamilton Police Service released a photo and description of Nathanael, describing him as Black, four feet tall and with short hair.

The July 1 photo shows him wearing a white tank top with Thomas the Tank Engine pictures on the front, green shorts with a small orange logo above the left knee and green swim goggles.

Const. Adam Kimber told CBC Hamilton that several units, including the mounted, ground search and marine units, are searching “quite a vast area.” The Peel marine unit and an OPP helicopter are also supporting.

Kimber said some 50 people were contributing to the search.

“Obviously the heat today has proven to be a challenge for the people searching.”

The region has been dealing with a heat warning, with a humidex of 49 on Wednesday and a severe thunderstorm that quickly rolled through the area on in the evening.

He also said police searched the cars of people leaving the conservation area Wednesday as it was being evacuated.

The conservation area in Hamilton’s southwest Binbrook area is closed Thursday, police told CBC.

In the news release, police asked anyone who may have seen Nathanael to contact them at 905-546-3886 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
