The Edmonton Oilers have fired head coach Kris Knoblauch, according to multiple media reports on Thursday.
The decision to remove Knoblauch as bench boss comes after a disappointing 2025-26 season which ended when the Oilers were eliminated in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs in six games by the Anaheim Ducks.
News of Knoblauch’s departure began circulating Thursday. CBC News has reached out to the Oilers for comment and team officials are expected to release a formal statement later this morning.
Knoblauch, 47, was hired in November 2023, replacing Jay Woodcroft, and had signed a contract extension in October of 2025.
He led the Oilers to two Stanley Cup final appearances before the team’s first-round exit this season.
