The Canadian women’s team pursuit trio of Isabelle Weidemann, Valérie Maltais, and Ivanie Blondin will get the chance to defend their Olympic title.
The speed skaters won their women’s team pursuit semifinal against the U.S. on Tuesday at the Milano Cortina Olympic Games and will skate in the gold-medal final at 10:47 a.m. ET (CBC TV, CBC Gem).
Weidemann, Maltais, and Blondin – who won gold in the event at Beijing 2022 – are guaranteed a medal result when they face the Netherlands, who beat Japan in the day’s other semifinal.
Maltais has already claimed an Olympic medal in Italy with a bronze in the women’s 3,000 metres.
Canada’s long-track team has earned two bronze medals with Laurent Dubreuil also reaching the podium in the men’s 500m.
Maltais and Blondin are also medal contenders in Saturday’s women’s mass start.
