The Ottawa Senators have signed two-way American forward Shane Pinto to a four-year contract extension.
The deal, announced Thursday — a day after Pinto’s 25th birthday — runs until the end of the 2029-30 season and will pay an average of $7.5 million per season.
Born on Long Island, N.Y., Pinto was Ottawa’s first pick in the second round of the 2019 draft. He made his debut in the pandemic-shortened 2021 season.
Pinto has played 227 games over parts of six seasons. His career was interrupted by a 41-game gambling suspension in 2023-24 that he said he received after friends in the U.S. placed wagers on his behalf while he was in Canada.
This season, Pinto has held down the third line for Ottawa, ranking second among forwards in ice time while starting most of his shifts outside the offensive zone. His eight goals are tied for the team lead.
He was invited to the U.S. Olympic team’s summer camp after winning gold at the 2025 World Championship.
