When Santa Cruz Skateboards introduced their VX deck construction, the goal was pretty clear and simple—make a board that’s lighter, stronger, and longer-lasting.
They aren’t the first brand to experiment construction like this, but like the others, it seems to be working. Hey, consider me intrigued. “VX decks are built different,” they mentioned on YouTube. “Erick Winkowski proves it.” See for yourself:
In the clip, Winkowski playfully demonstrates the versatility of these new planks. But what I got from it was this—these things are built tough and designed for you to give ’em your worst.

About Santa Cruz VX Decks
“VX decks are thinner, stronger, and have more pop than standard 7 ply decks featuring 5 plies of North American Maple and 2 layers of Quad X technology.”
Spontaneous. Stylish. Unpredictable. When you’re talking about the way somebody skates, these certainly aren’t the worst words to have in the conversation, that’s for sure. Erick is all of these and more. Never a dull moment with this dude. On and off the board, he’s always ready for a good time.
I’ve been a fan of Winkowski for years now and that admiration only continues to grow with edits like this. One of a kind! If you haven’t watched the clip yet, stop listening to me blabber and just press play. And peep the latest from Santa Cruz here.
