Disclaimer!: I went down to The Banks this morning to skate…I knew they’d be open today, but had no idea there was going to be a big press conference with the friggin’ mayor of New York City, but here we are:

Now, the Big Banks haven’t been skateable for about fifteen years (there was that summer of 2017 when skaters were sneaking in and getting clips). Thanks to Vans, The Skatepark Project, and many more people, this is a multi-million-dollar project that’s been in the works for years. We defer to our New York City media mentors at Quartersnacks who have a full, well-researched, breakdown you ought to read.

“The restoration was a collaboration between Gotham Park, The Skatepark Project and Vans. Shout out to Steve Rodriguez for being the advocate between all of them. Much of the bricks on the actual banks are the original ones, while the flat surfaces and some other patches are new ones.”—Quartersnacks

All in all, it was a big happy accident to end up at the Banks this morning. Great to see everyone and a big Thank You to Steve Rodriguez and everyone at The Skatepark Project and NYC and Gotham Parks.
