Aaron “Jaws” Homoki. A name that will forever blow minds in skateboarding. I mean, seriously, just think about some of the stuff this dude has done. Unreal.
In the latest installment of Portraits, The Platfrm caught up with Jaws to talk about life, skating, injuries and what makes Arizona home. While most pro skaters make the jump to California, Jaws decided to stick to his roots and buy a house in AZ years ago, and since, he’s continued to contribute to the local skate community he grew up engulfed in. “It’s just where I feel comfortable,” he explains. I really enjoyed hearing Jaws talk about the early days, back when social media wasn’t even a thought and homie videos were truly everything. Depending on how old you are—or when you got into skating—I’m sure that’s something we can all relate to.
Personally, some of the best times in my life happened before we had these little video-camera-distractions in our pockets, and without getting too nostalgic, there’s just something pure about the way things used to be. Hearing Jaws talk about that same feeling from his point of view was super rad.

But of course, all the insane tricks and drops Jaws has conquered over the years came with a price. Injuries are pretty much unavoidable in skateboarding, but Aaron has been through the wringer (more than a few times). I’m stoked he got us up-to-speed with his recent knee injury, a torn ACL and meniscus. Recovery is key!
From his incredible parts in the A Happy Medium video series, to his pro video parts and every homie video, clip and montage appearance we’ve seen of Jaws over the years, his clips have always stood out. Of course they have. Who else is doing what this dude does? Literally nobody. In fact, it’s become a thing to drive by, like, a million stair and joke that it’s a perfect “Jaws Spot”—that actually says a lot.
I’m not gonna spoil anything else though. I’ve always been such a huge fan of Jaws and have so much respect for him. A true original, this guy. Press play and dig a little deeper into the life of Jaws. Great episode.
