Unless you’ve been completely off the grid, you already know—Curren Caples’ first-ever signature Vans shoe is officially here. Curren and a handful of industry heavies, shop owners, pro skateboarders and close friends spent a few days in the desert celebrating the release and the shoes have been flying off the shelves ever since.
While out in sunny Palm Springs, Curren sat down with footwear designer Claude Leco—the man behind the design—to take a closer look at his new shoe and dig a little deeper into all the nitty-gritty details, the creative process that went into them, and some of the key features that make them such a good skate shoe. Take a look:
Curren played a key role in designing the shoes as well, and it’s safe to say his input was much appreciated. We all know pro skaters are pretty particular when it comes to gear—from boards to trucks, wheels, bearings, and of course, shoes—so when they know something works, they stick with it. These shoes are the perfect blend of everything Curren likes in a Vans shoe (and more).

TWS head-honcho, Blair Alley joined Curren’s desert festivities last weekend and has a rad recap up on the site. Looked like it was a good time! Tap the post above and take a peak behind the curtain. Caviar, champagne, cologne and skateboarding. I wonder if those four words have ever been grouped in a sentence before?
Curren’s new shoe is available in a handful of colorways at all the best skateshops across the globe. Getting a signature Vans shoe is obviously no small feat, but if anyone deserves one, it’s Curren. Can’t wait to see his new video part. Yeah, Curren!
