Two Days In The Desert: The Curren Caples Experience

Vans went all out for this one, flying in media and shop owners the world over for a two-day experience in Palm Springs. The reason? Curren Caples’ first signature shoe with the brand and the premiere of a ripping new video part. Drop in and take a ride out to the desert with us.

We took advantage of our interview time with Curren on day one to film this homage to The Studio series that’s currently on Apple TV.

After media interviews at the Saguaro, we had plenty of down time at the hotel pool before the night’s festivities at Palm Springs’ famous Surf Club:

After the wave pool madness, everyone piled into the Saguaro’s hotel bar for more drinks and convos with our friends and shop owners we haven’t seen in a while. Day one in the books. 

Day Two: A couple of our media bros were out in the early hours of the day and mentioned a nearby hike to a couple of waterfalls. We had to check it out, so myself, Jaime Owens, Mike B from Village Psychic and Jihone from Deluxe got in a nice afternoon hike and dip. The weather out there was perfect. 

At 6pm, we were bussed 40 minutes out to the desert of Indio onto a private ranch that was outfitted for the evening’s activities. Here’s Vans’ video of it!

An experience it was. Upon arrival, we were all greeted with caviar bumps and champagne. The main attraction were two concrete egg shell-shaped half pipes, with no flat bottom. Curren, Zion Wright, Roman Pabich and Shiloh Catori had to problem ripping them apart—until one of them collapsed! What’s a skateboarding event without a little drama?

The tray-passed snacks were amazing, the homies were on hand, and the sunset was beautiful. It was shaping up to be the perfect night for Curren’s big debut. 

The session lasted into the night, then it was time for Curren’s big video part premiere. With a live introduction from Geoff Rowley that anyone would kill for for their best man speech, we were all treated to another fast-paced, ripping part from Curren set to a great REO Speedwagon track. You’ll be seeing it soon!

After the desert experience, we were all bussed back to the hotel with a head full of stoke and desert dust. Karaoke popped off in the cantina and before we knew it, it was time to hit the dusty trail home. Thank you Van, what a week. Congrats Curren!
