Here are the bestselling Canadian fiction, nonfiction and children’s books from Jan. 10-17.

Bestseller lists are compiled by Bookmanager using weekly sales stats from more than 260 Canadian independent stores.

Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid is the No. 1 Canadian fiction title this week and four of her other titles — all part of the same Game Changer series — are in the top 10.

The 2019 romance, from which the hit TV series was adapted, tells the story of a relationship between rival professional hockey players Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. Hollander is a Canadian who plays for the fictional Montreal Voyageurs while the Russian Rozanov plays for the Boston Bears.

They’re both at the top of their game but their secret romance, once casual, is starting to feel like something more. As the two become even closer, they are forced to choose between their love of the game and their love of each other.

The series adaptation, directed by Montreal filmmaker Jacob Tierney, debuted in November on Crave, and is its most successful original series to date — appealling to a wide range of viewers. Heated Rivalry is also on the Canada Reads 2026 longlist.

Book of Lives by Margaret Atwood is the No. 1 Canadian nonfiction book this week.

In the memoir, Atwood recounts her early life with her entomologist father and dietitian mother — who spent most of the year in the forest in northern Quebec — her rise to literary stardom and the defining cultural and political moments that shaped her writing. Through her stories, readers will notice the connections between art and real life and get insight into the mind of one of Canada’s most celebrated writers.

The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch, illustrated by Michael Martchenko, is the No. 1 Canadian kids book this week.

The book, which has rarely left the top 10 since its publication in 1980, tells the story of Princess Elizabeth, who is set to marry Prince Ronald. But when a dragon attacks the castle and kidnaps Ronald, Elizabeth must do what she can to save her prince. The delightful story proves you can be both a princess and a hero.
