Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia says U.S. President Donald Trumpâs outrage toward Canada over an anti-tariff advertisement by the Ontario government is âa temper tantrumâ that will blow over â but itâs embarrassing for the United States.
âItâs just one more example of super childish behaviour by the president,â Kaine said in an exclusive Canadian interview on Rosemary Barton Live airing Sunday morning. âThe ad was a very fair ad.”
Canadaâs trade discussions with the U.S. have been plunged into peril after Ontario aired an advertisement featuring audio clips by then-president Ronald Reagan, who criticized tariffs during an address he delivered in 1987.
The advertisement appears to have deeply angered Trump, who blasted Canada on Saturday afternoon on social media and promised to increase âthe Tariff on Canadaâ by 10 per cent â though itâs unclear which tariff (or tariffs) heâs referring to.
âTheir Advertisement was to be taken down, IMMEDIATELY, but they let it run last night during the World Series, knowing it was a FRAUD,â the U.S. president said, further arguing that Reagan âLOVEDâ tariffs for national security purposes and the economy.
