Crown prosecutors have stayed the charges against a cult leader whose group occupied a former school in a southwest Saskatchewan village.
Romana Didulo was set to appear in Swift Current provincial court on Wednesday.
Didulo, the self-proclaimed “Queen of Canada,” was charged with failing to comply with an undertaking and intimidating a justice system participant.
The charges came after a police raid on Sept. 3, 2025, at a former school in the village of Richmound, population 120, about 365 kilometres west of Regina near the Alberta border.
Didulo and her followers were living in the school building for nearly two years, during which village residents say cult members harassed and threatened them.
Crown prosecutors issued a written stay of proceedings Tuesday in Didulo’s case. The reason for the stay is not yet clear. CBC has reached out to the Crown prosecutor.
The stay of proceedings halts the prosecution, but Crown prosecutors can re-initiate proceedings within one year.
