ClassPass, a subscription service best known for its health and fitness offerings, is expanding beyond the gym and into a venue mostly associate with sitting down for hours at a stretch. The fitness membership platform announced this week that subscribers can now use their ClassPass credits to purchase movie tickets at AMC Theatres.
The move is more than just a new perk for members—it signals ClassPass’s evolving definition of wellness and lifestyle services, and all the different kinds of opportunities that could entail.
How to use ClassPass to get AMC tickets
Today, select members gained the option to secure a standard 2D movie ticket at participating AMC locations through using their existing accounts on the ClassPass app. The booking process is the same as reserving a spot in a pilates class, allowing users to browse available showtimes and redeem credits for tickets.
For now, the movie ticket feature is only available in California, Florida, Texas, and Arizona, but ClassPass plans to expand the offering to additional markets in the coming months.
Fritz Lanman, CEO of Playlist (ClassPass’s parent company), explains the philosophy behind the expansion: “Every consumer defines wellness differently, and our mission is to provide a broad range of options that meet those needs.” It’s worth noting that week’s movie ticket launch comes on the heels of a larger restructuring that brought Mindbody, ClassPass, and Booker under a new parent brand, Playlist, earlier this year.
What this could mean for the future of ClassPass
This broader interpretation of “wellness” is pretty neat. Other recent additions to the ClassPass ecosystem include SunLife Organics locations across 10 major U.S. cities, bringing food and beverage options into the membership model. The company has also been incorporating beauty services, something of a no-brainer for the brand if you ask me.
As ClassPass continues to redefine what constitutes a “wellness” platform, the addition of movie tickets is a sweet deal. As someone who recently canceled both her ClassPass and AMC Stubs A-List accounts, I might have to reconsider, once the ticketing option is available in my state.
