Skateboarding Internet sensation, Madars Apse and Skate Tales recently touched down in Japan to link up with Kento Yoshioka—who is better known as Japanese Super Rat—a true force in the country’s underground skate scene. Never one to settle for the norm, Super Rat is pushing Japanese skate creativity to its limits, as far as we’re concerned. Both on and off the board! Check it out:
“The leading light of Japan’s underground skate scene, Japanese Super Rat is taking non-conformity and no-complies right to the cutting edge of Japanese creative output in skateboarding currently,” Skate Tales mentions. “Madars rocks out with the man at the forefront of Japan’s skateboarding counter-culture before linking up with the guiding spirits behind the Evisen and Tightbooth brands to find out what makes this bundle of energy tick just as he does.”

I’ve certainly heard of Kento over the years, and his skating speaks for itself—I’m a huge fan. But honestly, I like him even more after watching this new Skate Tales episode. This dude is a firecracker! A wild man! And he really brings a fresh, much-needed energy to skateboarding, if you ask me.
He’s a low-key, quiet ripper who has a lot to say given the chance. Throw this dude a mic and beware—you’ll quickly realize why he’s referred to as “the punk skateboarder Japan can’t contain.” Haha! So rad.
From wild ideas to late-night sessions, punk attitude to pure perseverance, this new episode of Skate Tales delivers a rare glimpse into the often hidden world of Japanese skateboarding—led by none other than the Emperor of the Underground (that’s what we’re gonna call him now) himself.
