A child was found dead Saturday afternoon on the shore in New Waterford, N.S.
In a statement, Insp. Jodie Wilson of the Cape Breton Regional Police, said they were called to a report of a missing child with autism in New Waterford.
The mother of the child noticed the child had escaped through a kitchen window.
Wilson said the body was discovered shortly after 2 p.m. AT in the water near a cliff.
Gerald Coady, the deputy chief of the New Waterford Volunteer Fire Department, said emergency services went to the waterfront on Saturday after receiving a report about 2:30 p.m. that a child had gone over the bank.
He said the body was recovered around 3 p.m.
Coady said the child was male and about six years old.
