“Spike Jonze directed that and I didn’t really pay attention to what the dialogue was, then I looked at it and it was like Shakespeare,” Wilson joked, reflecting on the iconic scene. And if you think about it, that makes absolute sense. Skate trick names are mysterious and weird, but I’d say he absolutely nailed it. I mean, c’mon, he had us all fooled. We saw the power of Hollywood magic unfold right before our eyes.

I don’t know about you, but my young, naive mind definitely played with the idea that Owen Wilson actually did those tricks when Yeah Right first dropped. Just seeing such a high-level celebrity in the video was a trip in itself—it’s so highly referenced to this day—and I love that people still talk about it and trip out on it. I’d say it’s absolutely timeless at this point, but hearing Wilson talking about it is pure gold.

I’m sure Owen has been asked about this more than a few times over the years, but this was the first time I’ve ever heard him talk about it. So, of course I’m stoked.
Yeah Right will forever be one of my favorite skate videos, and will undeniably go down in skateboarding history as one of the best ever—for many reasons. But this was certainly one of them.
“People will still think that was me,” Wilson smiled. “On that day, I fit into that world.” You’re welcome back anytime, Owen.
