“Performing outdoors as part of the City of Mississauga’s Summer Concert Series is always a highlight of our season. There’s something special about sharing great music in a relaxed, open-air setting — it brings the community together in a way that feels both joyful and meaningful. We’re proud to be part of this celebration of music in Mississauga,” said Maestro Denis Mastromonaco, Artistic Director and Conductor of the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra, in a statement.

The program will include a blend of light classical music, orchestrated pop hits, and popular movie themes.

Last year’s Symphony in the Park drew about 2,000 people.

The Missisauga Symphony Orchestra is what is known as a hybrid orchestra — i.e. incorporating 90+ community musicians with professional section leads. They’ve been around since 1972, and a resident of the Living Arts Centre since 1997, with a mandate of offering performance opportunities to talented amateurs, as well as focusing on music education and public entertainment.

Maestro Denis Mastromonaco has led the MSO since 2013. He’s also Music Director of the Mississauga Symphony Youth Orchestra, York Symphony Orchestra and Opera York, and has conducted orchestras and ensembles across Canada, the US and in Europe. He is a regular guest conductor for the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra in the Czech Republic.

Denis obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, and went on to complete his Master of Music Degree in Orchestral Conducting from the State University of New York, attaining summa cum laude honours. He’s been recognized with a number of awards, including the Emme Contestabile Prize in Orchestral Conducting from Accademia Musicale Chigiana, the City of Vaughan 2005 Outstanding Citizen Award and in 2013 the Ontario Service Medal for contribution to the arts.

The concert starts at 6:30 p.m. at Port Credit Memorial Park.

There is no seating in the park, and guests are encouraged to arrive early, and bring a lawn chair or blanket.
