The powers that be at Vans are no strangers to reinventing their own wheels, and this new checkered collection is certainly no exception. Honestly, I think they look pretty rad, but you can’t knock the classics. Take a look and tell me what you think. Then we’ll get down to the nitty-gritty.

When I think checkered Vans, I think Jeff Spicoli. So I can’t help but look at these and wonder, what would Spicoli think? He was a pretty loose, carefree guy, so I’m sure he wouldn’t think much. Therefore, it’s up to us.

Are these your ideal, go-to skate shoes? Probably not. But hey, a lot of people have skated non-skate shoes over the years (decades) and they’ve always seemed to work. In fact, some have broken the mold. I mean, Dunks weren’t originally designed with griptape in mind, you know?
But yeah, real talk, these are built for style more than function. That said, OTW by Vans doesn’t skimp on durability and performance. A lot of thought and planning go into every single piece of footwear they make, which I respect. And honestly, you can still obviously skate these. Give ’em your worst!
