Geoffrey Shyam Stirling, son of NTV CEO Scott Stirling, was riding a motorcycle when he was pulled over in a traffic stop on Thursday.

Police say Stirling then became “uncooperative”.

According to the report, Stirling removed the officer’s taser from his belt and attempted to use it against the officer multiple times. After that, the shooting occurred at around 9:15 p.m..

More officers arrived on scene and provided medical aid to Stirling. He was transported to hospital, and later pronounced dead, having been shot.

The California Department of Justice is now conducting an independent investigation.

In a statement, NTV general manager Lindsey Andrews said she is saddened by the news of Geoffrey Stirling’s passing, and that the Stirling family is heartbroken by the loss of their son, brother and uncle.

“On behalf of all of the staff at the Newfoundland Broadcasting Company, our thoughts and prayers are with the Stirling family at this very difficult time,” said Andrews.

Stirling’s sister, reality TV star Lydia McLaughlin also said in the statement, “my family and I are devastated by the loss of my brother. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from friends, family, and the community. We kindly ask for privacy as we mourn.”
